Some Down time.
The streets of Philly are getting harder for people to live in each day that passes. The crime and political corruption that covers the city is running rampant still, and each day I hear news or talk about the Mayors plan for getting guns and violent offenders off the streets. But nothing is ever done, earlier today I seen on the news someone I once worked with and two of his friends taken out of a car and beaten down by police. It was all caught on camera and posted all over the net; the crazy part of it is that they had nothing on them or any reason to have been stop. At the time when that was poppin off I must have been cross town on patrol or doing clean up in some other part of the hood. It hurt to see someone I knew being harassed by the police. Shit that could have been me or any one of my boys ridding, chillin, minding our business one moment then getting our ass kicked in the next. The incident made me hate the police, but not all, just most. It opened my eyes up to how fucked up the police system in Philadelphia is and why I’m needed. But there is this police commissioner named “Roderick Henderson, he's the one leading this new task force thats been on my ass latly and the one who called for a live broadcast of a conference he held just minute’s after the beating took place. It was streamed across Philadelphia, the conference expressed his anger on the way fifteen officers handled what was to be a routine stop, and how those officers involved would be suspended and investigated. I liked this commissioner’s hands on approach to the event, but all I could take away from this mishap was that my presence needed and had to be felt everywhere, even when I’m not at a scene. I was hiding on a rooftop deep beneath the shadows on this calm night, smoking and waiting. Waiting to jump into some kind of action and get the night started, but there was nothin out this night. All I could do was use this down time to think as I looked and listened over the neighborhood my family raised me in. There are plenty of nights when the city’s streets sound like an amusement park filled with screams, gun fire and loud music playing in the background. But this night was different, the air was calm, streets empty with nothing but the sound of passing air planes crossing the sky. This down time gave reality a chance to catch up with me. With all this thinking that was going on, couldn’t help but let thoughts about my life out side the mask creep into my head. I’ve been missing time at this staffing agency I was holding on to and use to attend daily for more then a couple days now, and I haven’t seen my mom and pop in weeks. This night life is killing the day life I use to have and love, my girl is the only one who gets to see me whether she knows it or not. At times When I brake her heart by standing her up, she looks out her bedroom window and stares into the night crying her eyes out due to another broken promise I made. But I find a way to stair back from the shadows and through all the chaos I come across in a nights run. She never knows when I’m there, and most times it’s me looking over her resting body before I’ve called it a night an head home, but I’m there, watching and protecting her and my family along with this city.
